Horace W. Schantz

Horace W. Schantz established the Horace W. Schantz Funeral Home, Inc. conveniently located in the center of town at Third and Main Streets, in 1945. The home, which was built by Dr. Harvey T. Wickert, in 1890, has undergone 3 major renovations to bring the establishment up to modern standards of today while preserving the charm and nostalgia of the past. Horace graduated from Emmaus High School in 1936 and Perkiomen Prep School in 1937.

He attended the University of Wisconsin and graduated from the former Eckel's College of Mortuary Science in 1939. He continued a tradition of serving families in the Emmaus and Macungie areas for over 40 years, retiring in 1986. In 1986, Horace's son, H. Walker Schantz, III purchased the business from his father and has continued to run the business until his retirement in July 2011.

The funeral home was purchased by long-time employee Dustin M. Grim. Dustin will continue to run the daily operations of the business with the dignity and respect that the Schantz family has run the business in the past. Walker, in retirement, will continue to help serve the families in their time of need.
