Obituary

William Schuster William Bill Schuster, of Macungie, passed away peacefully, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer, on January 15th surrounded by loving family members. He was the loving husband of Charlotte Irene (Long) Schuster of Macungie for 69 years. Born in Vera Cruz he was the son of Stephen and Julia (Jaindl) Schuster of Vera Cruz. He graduated from Emmaus High School in 1939 where he was an outstanding athlete. He was a member of the well-known Vera Cruz Ramblers baseball team, led his American Legion team to the state championship finals and was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies, playing in the New York Penn League. Injuries forced an end to his playing career. He served honorably in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1942-1946, serving in the Pacific and achieving the rank of Sergeant. Bill began his business career as a carpenter and painter but his love of art resulted in a career as a commercial sign painter and ultimately a noted Pennsylvania Dutch Folk Artist. W. Schuster Signs and Gifts began in 1959 and for 52 years Bill could be found in his shop in Emmaus and later in Kutztown. His artwork has been distributed throughout the world. He was a former long-time member of the Emmaus Lions Club and VFW. Survivors: He is survived by his wife Charlotte; brother Elmer of Whitehall; son Danny and his wife Nancy of Billerica, MA; daughter Linda and her husband James Yost of Orefield; son Joel of Emmaus; daughter Jackie of Macungie; 7 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by son William Howard Schuster, sister Emma Kratzer and brothers Karl, Robert and Stephen. Services: Memorial Services Friday, Jan.20, 2012 at 11:00 AM in Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., 250 Main St., Emmaus. Friends may call 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the funeral home.
