William Koelsch Moening, passed away at his home in Emmaus on July 6, 2017. He was born on July 11, 1916 in Lockland, OH to William Conrad Moening and Ursula B. (Koelsch) Moening. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Elizabeth Jeanne (Story) Moening, to whom he was married for 67 years. He is survived by their seven children: Barbara Jean Lekorenos of Anderson, SC; Colonel William C. Moening, USAF Retired of San Antonio, TX; James Louis Moening of Allentown, PA; Carolyn Elizabeth Digel of Smethport, PA; Marjorie Moening Hamill of Emmaus, PA; Anne Louise Smiley of Allentown, PA; and Sue Ellen Hamilton of Port O'Connor, TX. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Bill was a graduate of Western Hills High School, Cincinnati, OH and attended Purdue University. During WWII he moved his family to Detroit, MI where he worked as a draftsman for Strong, Carlisle and Hammond, involved in the manufacturing of war materials. Following the war he moved his family to Emmaus, and worked as a machine tool salesman for Machinery Associates of suburban Philadelphia. His major clients included Bethlehem Steel, MACK Truck, Reading Railroad and the Chrysler Defense Plant. He formed Valley Forge Machine Tool Co. in 1960 and represented several clients for the next decade.
Bill had been active in the Emmaus Lions Club and participated in minstrel shows during the 1950's. He was a long-time member of Lehigh Country Club, and during the 1950's and 60's was chairman of the swimming pool program. Bill was an enthusiastic "car guy", collecting numerous antique and classic cars. He was formerly a licensed pilot and enjoyed boating at his vacation home in Avalon, NJ for many years.
Services: Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 1:30 PM in Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., 250 Main St., Emmaus. Viewing 12:30 to 1:30 PM in the funeral home.
Contributions: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the Emmaus Public Library, St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, or Wildlands Conservancy, Emmaus.
