William J.
Matwey, Jr.
October 23, 1941 – November 9, 2021
William J. Matwey, Jr., 80, of Macungie, passed away Nov. 9. 2021 in St. Luke's Hospital Allentown Campus. Born Oct. 23, 1941 in Wilmington, DE to the late William and Loretta Matwey. Bill was the husband to Peggy Matwey for the last 27 years. He was predeceased by his first wife, Halina Ryczek Matwey, who he was married to for 18 years. Bill was also predeceased by his sister, Patricia Cummings.
Bill graduated from Newark High School in Newark, DE, class of 1959. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force on active duty for four and a half years. While stationed in Bangor, ME, Bill attended Husson College and obtained an Associate's Degree in Business Administration. After his discharge in 1964, he finalized his studies at the University of Delaware in Economics. Bill worked for 35 years in Credit Management for Sears Roebuck and upon retiring then retired a second time from CitiGroup Credit Management. Bill retired in 2004 and he and Peggy have spent time hiking in the Arizona desert, traveling together and also with their children and grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife, Peggy Ann; daughter, Adrienna Werner and son-in-law, Ted Werner of Camden, DE; stepdaughters, Alyson Girton and Elizabeth Varga both of Harleysville; granddaughters, Halina and Annamarie Werner; step-grandchildren, Katryna and Benjamin Girton; sisters, Joanne Samans and husband Walt Samans of Middletown, DE and Christine Bekowski of Newark, DE.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tues., Nov. 16, 2021 at 11:00 AM in St. Ann's Catholic Church, 415 S. 6 th St., Emmaus. Viewing Mon., Nov. 15, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., 250 Main St., Emmaus and Tues. 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the church. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery, Doylestown.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bill's memory to a charity of choice.
