William J. Holmes, 97, of Mertztown, died April 18, 2025 in Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest.  He was the husband of Elizabeth G. (Pisciotta) Holmes.  Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late John and Lucille (Martin) Holmes.  He honorably served his country in the Navy in the Pacific Theater and the Philippians during WWII and Korea.  He began his working career as a letter carrier for the USPS, followed by working as a security guard at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Macungie Police Officer, and retired in 1992 as a security guard for Kraft Foods.  He attended Bethany Church, Allentown and was a member of the Macungie VFW.

William is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth; sons, Christopher Holmes and wife Renee and Brian Holmes; grandchildren, Samantha, Ryan, Austin, and Marlee; great grandchildren, Evelyn and Sebastian.

A memorial service will be held on Sun., June 1, 2025 at 2:00 PM in Bethany Church, 3801 Brookside Road, Allentown.  Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., Emmaus is handling arrangements.
