Obituary

William S. Fries, 95, of Allentown, died June 23, 2016 in Woodland Terrace at the Oaks. He was the widower of Anna C. (Matsco) Fries. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Willian D. and Verna (Fegley) Fries. He worked as a machinist for Bethlehem Steel for 35 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of The Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church. He honorably served his country in the Army during WWII as a member of the First Battalion of the 3339th "Polar Bear" regiment, which found more than 25 tons of gold in a cave beneath an ancient fortress on the Fifth army sector in Italy.

Survivors: Son, Paul W. Fries and wife Susan E. of Emmaus; Daughter, Janet E. wife of Glen Smith of Center Valley; Grandchildren, Alayna, Elizabeth wife of Brian Elison, Allison, Kyle and wife Channing, Kevin, and Michelle; Great Grandchildren, Chase, Olivia, and Eden.

Services: Memorial Services Mon., June 27, 2016 at 10:30 AM in Schantz Funeral Home P.C., 250 Main St., Emmaus. Visitation 9:30 to 10:30 AM in the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow in Laurel Cemetery.
