Obituary

Warren A. Keller, 89, formerly of Emmaus, died October 15, 2014 in Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was the widower of June B. (Brelsford) Keller. Born in Nazareth, he was the son of the late Miriam (Simons) Ziegler Grow and stepson of the late Clarence C. Ziegler. He was a graduate of Muhlenberg College and Temple University, earning a Master's Degree in Education. He was a school teacher and reading consultant for the Allentown School District, retiring in 1983. Previously he taught in the Seaford, DE School District, his first teaching assignment. He assumed many leadership positions within the teaching community. After retiring, he worked at the former Allentown Teacher's Credit Union, serving as President and also worked for the Morning Call. As a volunteer, he taught English to non-English speaking residents through the Literacy Center of Lehigh Valley, and he and June represented Emmaus Moravian at the Second Harvest Food Bank once a month. He was the first editor of the Emmaus Free Press, member of the Phi Delta Kappa fraternity, served on the Emmaus Ambulance Corps. for 16 years and was an avid potter. Warren and June were active members of the Emmaus Moravian Church, serving as Sacristans for 16 years and Warren was a member of the Board of Elders and Trustees. He honorably served his country in the Navy aboard a PT boat in the South Pacific during WWII. Survivors: Daughter, Sallie K. wife of Peter Smith of Alburtis; Son, David A. Keller of Bethlehem and companion, Patty Kennedy of Allentown; Granddaughter, Avery E. Smith of Allentown; Sister-in-Law, Carole Brelsford of Allentown; Nieces, Jill Henry(Chris), Cathy Golden (Tim) and Jennifer Oswald (Mike) as well as great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a Brother-in-Law, John "Jack" Brelsford. Services: Celebration of Life Service Wednesday Oct. 22, 2014 at 11:00 AM in Emmaus Moravian Church, Main Street and Keystone Ave., Emmaus. Visitation 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the church parlor. Interment will follow in Emmaus Moravian Cemetery. Schantz Funeral Home P.C., Emmaus is handling arrangement. Online condolences may be made at schantzfh.com.
