Warren B. Backenstoe Warren B. Backenstoe, 88, of Wernersville, died March 23, 2010 in the Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Veronica I. (Irish) Backenstoe. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on Nov. 2, 2009. Born in Salisbury Twp., he was the son of the late Clarence B. and Minerva (Litzenberger) Backenstoe. He was a 1940 graduate of Allentown High School and attended Troy Business College. He worked for Borden Ice Cream Company as a cost accountant in Troy, NY. In September 1942 he joined the Navy, serving on the USS Edward C. Daly, DE17, the first destroyer escort in the Pacific, of which 14 months were spent in the Aleutians. After his discharge from the Navy, he attended Drexel University and received his BS in Business Administration with a major in Accounting. He worked for Lehigh Portland Cement Company as a Market Analyst for 37 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church, Allentown. He was a member of Boyscout Troop 38, where he received his Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow award. He was active in the Goschenhoppen Historians and the Peter Wentz Farmstead and was a member of the PA German Society. Survivors: Wife; Sisters, Irene Roberts of Allentown, Pauline Fenstermaker of Allentown, Frances Cole of Washington, NJ, Dorothy Roth of Emmaus, and Esther Schiavone of Breinigsville; Nieces and Nephews. Services: Funeral Services Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 1:00 PM in Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church, 3441 Devonshire Road, Allentown. Viewing 12 Noon to 1:00 PM in the church.
