Obituary

Twilajean Ethel (Marsteller) Bergstresser, of Lower Macungie Twp., passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on June 10, 2026. Born to David and Lizzie (Strauss) Marsteller of Macungie, she lived a life focused on family, faith, and service to others.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Charles N. Bergstresser, who passed away in 2015. They were married 61 years and built lasting memories through their shared love of family, gardening and traveling, most especially their annual “leaf-peeping” trips. She was also preceded in death by her son, David F. Bergstresser.

Twilajean is survived by her daughter, Charlene D. Bergstresser and Robin M. Koch; daughter-in-law, Jodie (Kevin) Kowalick; grandchildren, Tanya (Steve) Burrows, Adam Bergstresser, Drew (Catie) Bergstresser, and Morgan Bergstresser (Alfredo Orozco); and five great grandchildren; sisters, Carmella (Walter) Boyer, Yvonne (Richard) Saylor, and brother-in-law, John (Marlene) Bergstresser.

She is also survived by and was deeply grateful for her caring neighbors and friends, Craig, Kelly, Sully, and Dempsey Hochbein, whose kindness and companionship meant so much to her.

In the past year, she was especially thankful for the care and compassion provided by the staff and volunteers of Lehigh Valley Hospice.

Her work life included the Macungie Bank, H. Leh & Co., and Emmaus Auto Parts. Additionally, she believed in giving back through volunteerism and served countless hours for Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church, Girl Scouting and Operation Sunshine.

Twilajean loved butterflies, hummingbirds and took great pride in her flower gardens. An avid reader, she enjoyed biographies, stories about current people of interest, and ghost stories. Much favored were her “vacation days” which were long, meandering car rides that involved stopping at roadside markets, candy stores, and gift shops along the way.

A memorial service will be held on Mon., June 22, 2026 at 11:00 AM in Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., 250 Main St., Emmaus. Visitation 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Western Salisbury Cemetery.

One of Twilajean’s favorite sayings was, “Bring me flowers while I am here, not after I am gone.” In keeping with her wishes, and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania, or LVHN Lauren’s Fund.
