Obituary

Thomas J. Matthews, 71, of Emmaus, died May 20, 2015 at Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was the husband of Jane M. (Betz) Matthews. Born in Glen Cove, NY he was the son of the late John and Margaret (Wade) Matthews. He was an air traffic controller, working for the FAA and at Stewart International Airport, retiring on April 29, 2013. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Emmaus, and a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus, St. Ann's Chapter. He was a lifetime member of the National Model Railroad Association. He honorably served his country in the Coast Guard during Vietnam. Survivors: Wife; Daughter, Rita M. Matthews of Nanuet, NY; Son, John P. Matthews of New York City, NY; Brother, John Matthews and wife Carol of Valatie, NY; Brother-in-Law, Jacob Betz and wife Judith of Mt. Carmel; Niece, Joan; Nephews, James, Brian, Peter, and Timothy. He was predeceased by a nephew, Jeffrey. Services: Funeral Service Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at 10:30 AM in Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., 250 Main Street, Emmaus followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St. Ann's Catholic Church.
