Sylvia Millicent (Steffey) Moyer, 87, of Emmaus, unexpectedly but peacefully was called to meet her Lord May 15 while resting in her Emmaus home. Sylvia and her husband, Neil G. Moyer, retired elementary teacher and principal in the East Penn School District, were married for 66 years. Born June 12, 1936 in Topton to Emma (Hein) and Harvey Steffey, she was the youngest of three daughters. She took pride in the fact that she didn't miss a day of school while completing grades 1 through 10 in Topton and 11 and 12 at Kutztown High School. Sylvia was a creative person and talented musician, playing the piano, trumpet, and accordion. During her junior and senior years, she was a trumpet soloist in the K.H.S. Band. After high school graduation in '54 she joined Flo Slifer's all girl orchestra, The Swingettes, playing trumpet. Friends and relatives would look forward to seeing her interior decorating for each season or major annual holiday. Sylvia and her family were active members of Jerusalem Western Salisbury, playing trumpet in JWS's Wind Ensemble, and singing on the choir. Between Topton's St. Peter's and JWS, she was a teacher, pianist, and Supt. of the Nursery Dept. in the Sunday School. After High School graduation and until her marriage in 1957, she was a secretary at Caloric and Air Products.

Surviving Sylvia are her husband, Neil, youngest son, Dr. Anthony N. Moyer, principal of E.P's Willow Elementary School, granddaughters Harmony (Phoenix, AZ), Mary (Belvidere, IL), numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and her two cats, Bunny and Spider.  In addition to her parents, Sylvia is predeceased by her oldest son, Stephen Chris (Steve), sisters Lovie (Dankel) and Betty (Kercher), aunt Bertha (Venditto), nephew Terry (Kercher), and grandparents.

Viewing Friday, May 24, 6:30 – 7:30 P.M. in Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., 250 Main St., Emmaus and Saturday, May 25, 10:00 -11:00 AM at J.W.S. Church, 3441 Devonshire Rd., Allentown PA 18103. Funeral services will be held on Sat., May 25 at 11 am in the church; interment in the church cemetery to follow.
