Obituary

God called his faithful servant, Rev. Robert D. Harting, Home on Christmas Eve. After many years of suffering, he is finally singing with the angels. As a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, pastor, and friend, he taught all those around him about love, faith, kindness, and respect for all people. He was a humble man with a generous spirit. You could sense God's unconditional love just by being in his presence. Robert was a graduate of Cocalico High School, Catawba College, and the Lancaster Theological Seminary. He was a gifted musician, specializing in trumpet, and won many awards in high school and college. As a servant of God, he was a messenger of His love. He was an ordained minister of the United Church of Christ. He served St. James U.C.C, Allentown, Jerusalem Western Salisbury U.C.C., Allentown, St. Thomas U.C.C., Bethlehem, and St. Matthew's U.C.C., Kunkletown. Rev. Harting served on many boards throughout the Penn Northeast Conference and the community. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Grant and Helen (Harding) Harting. He was the loving husband of Elizabeth A "Bette" (Aungst) Harting. He loved all sports, the outdoors, and spending time his family. He is deeply loved by his friends and family and will be dearly missed. Survivors: Wife; son, Ryan D. Harting and wife Kristen of Bethlehem; Daughters, Kristen, wife of Scott Sevinsky of Bethlehem and Kelly, wife of Chris Caflin of Bethlehem, Brother, Greg Harting and wife Cindy of Reinholds; Sister, Carol Harting of Lancaster; 7 Grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Susie Kurtz. Services: Memorial Service Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014 at 11:00 AM in Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church, 3441 Devonshire Road, Allentown. Visitation Monday, Dec. 29, 2014 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in Schantz funeral home, P.C., 250 Main St., Emmaus and Tuesday 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the church. Online condolences may be made at schantzfh.com.
