Benner
July 12, 1943 – December 13, 2017
Robert L. Benner, 74, of Allentown, died December 13, 2017 in his residence. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Cornelius E. and Ida R. (Nicotera) Benner. He worked as a stone mason for Ralph Paul; Bethlehem Steel as head security guard to the last four general managers from 1967 to 1980, then from 1980 to 1984 as a plant security guard, from 1984 to 1988 he was hotel manager for Harold Fulmer at Hotel Traylor and Sheridan Inn, Easton and was in charge of 137 employees, owned and operated Lehigh Jewelers from 1988 to 1998 and became a stone setter and gold smith. He honorably served his country in the Army as military police in Panama. He is a member of Old Zionsville U.C.C. He is a member of Stanley Goodwin Lodge #548 F&AM for 36 years, life member of the NRA, Macungie and Emmaus VFW, Coplay Saengerbund, Mercantile Club of Emmaus, Unami Fish and Game, Citizens Fire Co. #1, Fearless Fire Company, and the Emmaus Historical Society. Bobby volunteered for the following organizations: Macungie Car Show, Macungie Park, Trinity Episcopal Church Soup Kitchen, Allentown Fairgrounds as the parking supervisor, Old Zionsville U.C.C. kitchen, Board member and maintenance for the Village School, lecturer on Eastern PA stone artifacts of local American Indians, lecturer on local turtles, Zionsville Area Food Pantry food collector, and Allentown Crime Watch #30.
Survivors: Daughters, Susan Linski and Dr. Stacy Forrestter, Brothers, Elwood J. Benner, Cornelius E. Benner, Jr., and Jeffrey S. Benner; Sister, Diane M. Jarrell; Friends, Jack and Wendy Yeakel.
Services: Funeral Services to be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM in Old Zionsville, U.C.C., Fountain Road and Kings Highway, Old Zionsville. Viewing Tuesday 6:00 to 8:00 PM in Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., 250 Main St., Emmaus with Masonic Services at 8:00 PM and Wednesday 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the church. Interment with military honors will follow in Old Zionsville U.C.C. Cemetery.
Contributions: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Emmaus Historical Society, 218 Main St., Emmaus, PA 18049.
