Richard H. Bower Richard H. Bower, 88, formerly of Emmaus, died Oct. 8, 2011 in St. Lukes Hospice House. He was the widower of Doris M (Bernecker) Bower. Born in Nescopeck, he was the son of the late Louis T. and Mildred V. (Grover) Bower. He was a 1949 graduate of Lehigh University. He was an electrical engineer for PP&L for 39 years, retiring in 1988. Prior to his retirement, he was the manager of Substation Engineering. He was a member of Emmaus Moravian Church. He honorably served his country in the Navy during WWII, serving as a carrier dive-bomber aviator. He served as the chairman of the PA Electric Association Electrical Equipment Committee from 1978 to 1980, was a life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Inc., received the IEEE Substation Committee Distinguished Service Award in 1987, member of the Emmaus American Legion, life member of the Emmaus Mercantile Club, and volunteered with AARP Tax Care for Elderly and 55 Safe Driving course. Survivors: Son, Jeffrey H. Bower and wife Veronica of Dallas, TX; Daughter, Barbara Bower of Cleveland, OH; Stepsons, Ronald Gould and wife Susan of Bethlehem and Robert Gould of Macungie; Stepdaughters, MaryAnn wife of Joseph Kozo of Oak Grove, MN and Susan wife of Conrad Rehrig of Schnecksville; Brother, Jack Bower and wife Charlotte of Berwick; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; nephews.
