IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ralph G.
Frankenfield
May 20, 1929 – February 13, 2021
Heading to a greener golf course, Ralph Guy (Pappy) Frankenfield died peacefully at the Lehigh Valley Hospice on Saturday February 13 at the age of 91 from kidney disease. Born on May 20, 1929 to Amenia Fink and Guy Miles Frankenfield, he was raised in Wescosville, PA and graduated from Emmaus High School in 1947. Growing up, he ran with the "Kraussy Gang" where he developed his love for basketball, cars, and hijinx. He served during the Korean War in the Naval Air Force as a 2nd Class Petty Officer Aviation Machinist Mate
based in Alameda, CA and Honolulu, HI. He played on the naval base basketball and baseball teams. While in Alameda, he played basketball against Bill Russell who was on the University of San Francisco team, and he once broke up a no-hitter in the 9th inning of a baseball game. In 1955, Ralph married the love of his life, Avonne Evelyn Knauss, and spent the next 66 years devoted to her and their growing family. He worked on the assembly line for Willard (Exide)
Battery from 1954 until the plant closed in 1988, and was elected by his co-workers to represent them as a Committee Man for the local UAW. He was especially proud of his cars (which he changed like socks), his Kentucky Bluegrass lawn (so soft that the neighborhood kids loved to roll around on it), and his woodworking. In his immaculate basement workshop, he became a skilled woodworker who crafted for family and friends furniture and unique gifts that, due to the zealous use of specialty jigs, pegs, dowels, glues, and screws, will never fall apart. You could always tell if Ralph made the furniture by just looking at the super slick surfaces with numerous protective coatings of urethane. His loves
included golf with his friends that he met regularly on the links (and the 19th hole) well into his 80's. Rooting for the Phillies, Eagles, and Iron Pigs led to many moments of excitement and heartbreak, yet his commitment never waivered. Ralph leaves a legacy of integrity, devotion to family and friends, and a reminder to measure three times and cut just once. Ralph is predeceased by his sister Jeanne Miller of Allentown and brother Robert of Emmaus. He will be missed by his son, Guy (Lynn Briskie) Frankenfield of Cedar Hill, TX and daughter
Jane (Riddick) Weber of Bethlehem, PA. He is a proud grandfather of Guy F. (Gabby) Frankenfield of Wesley Chapel FL, Brooke (Justin) Kintz of Arlington VA, Katelyn (Matt) Forero of Oak Park CA, Sarah (Sergey) Yunusov of Bethlehem, Rebecca Burcaw of Philadelphia; and 3 great granddaughters, Gianna, Gillian, and Vivienne, and many grand dogs. His family thanks the caregivers at Lehigh Valley Hospice and Lehigh Commons for their compassion and good care. To keep all safe, a private service will be held for the family through Schantz Funeral Home in Emmaus. In lieu of flowers the family invites you to spend time with your loved ones and donate in memorial to the charity of your choice.
