Obituary

Pauline Ruth Mohr A.K.A. Polly Polly Mohr began her well-lived life in Aletus, Lithuania in 1923. Polly enjoyed dual citizenship in both U.S.A. and Lithuania. She was the daughter of the late Amelia (Belchitis) and Walter Rutkauskas with whom she moved to the United States at two years of age. Polly was an expert in Lithuanian language and culture and she remained immensely proud of her Lithuanian heritage while living the balance of her life in the States. Sadly, the Communist occupation of Lithuania followed by common restrictions of old age prevented her from returning to her place of birth. Pollys professional training and career was as a Registered Nurse. She completed a portion of her education at Villa Academy and subsequently graduated from the Kings County New York School of Nursing in 1944. Initially, she worked in Brooklyn, New York and eventually moved to hospitals in Scranton, Pennsylvania. In addition to her hospital-based work, Polly was sought after as a Private Duty Nurse because of her compassion and devotion to professional excellence. Pollys life was not limited to health care and she was a self-made woman. Despite a lack of professional training, Polly mastered fine sewing techniques and made distinctive custom upholstered pieces, slipcovers, and window treatments for her home. In addition she created clothing for her family with the eye of a fine tailor. Ultimately, knitting became her true specialty. Family and friends have lost count of the sweaters, mittens, hats, socks, and other items that she made over the years. As a mother and friend she was infinitely positive and supportive. No idea was too weird for her to consider and she possessed an uncommon capacity to select just the right words of encouragement. This was a particularly unique trait for certain! Polly made everyone she met feel special and important. Polly is survived by her daughter, Pam Parker, her son in law, Tom, and her granddaughter, Ally all of Emmaus, PA. Polly adored her Ally and called her my special, special girl. Ally shared the feeling of closeness and visited Polly often bringing treats and taking the time to talk, listen, and learn from Nana Polly. Theirs was a very special relationship. Polly was predeceased by her granddaughter, Olivia, Allys younger sister. Polly spoke with Olivia every night as part of her prayer practice. Polly is survived by her son, Paul Mohr, daughter in law, Marilee, of Philadelphia, PA and granddaughter, Kipp of New York, New York. Also, Polly was predeceased by her husband, Paul Mohr, of Scranton, PA in 1986, her brother, Tony Rutkauskas of Scranton, PA and her brother John, who died in Lithuania. My Mom, Polly, was a lady of distinction. While studying old photos with her recently, her elegance was obvious. She had the desire to find and the ability to recognize the uniquely different things of our world and I learned from the best teacher ever. During the last few weeks of her life, Polly struggled with her health. AS her condition continued to worsen, despite how awful she felt, her common reply to anyone who asked how she felt, was, cant complain! I love you, Mom, with all my heart. You have always been and will always be my inspiration. Pam Pauline Ruth Polly Mohr left this world on June 14, 2011. There will be no service per her request. Please have a peaceful day with love in Pollys memory. Schantz Funeral Home, Inc., Emmaus is handling arrangements. Online condolences may be made to www.schantzfh.com
