Obituary

Paul R. Blomster, loving husband and father, age 83, of Emmaus passed away on May 10 due to complications from a stroke. He was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on March 15th 1933 to the late George and Ranghild Blomster. After graduating from Lynn Classical High School in 1950 he served a Tool and Die Maker Apprenticeship with the General Electric Company in Lynn. He was drafted into the army in March 1953, attended a school to become a guidance package specialist for the Nike Missile program, and then joined a support team for a Nike Missile Battery in Richland Washington. After his army service he went back to the G.E., finished his apprenticeship and then attended Tufts University where he pursued a B. S. Degree in Electrical Engineering. At Tufts he was elected to the Tau Beta Pi National Honor Society. After graduating from Tufts he joined The Bell Labs division of AT&T as a member of their Technical Staff. While at Bell Labs he received a M.S. in E.E. from Northeastern University. He worked for many years on the design of quartz Crystal Units and Crystal Controlled Oscillators that were used for precise frequency control in many Bell System Applications. During his later years at Bell Labs he had some design responsibility for Optical Data Links, and transmitters for submarine cables before retiring in 1994. In his final years, he excelled at his role as his wife's primary caregiver, with his devotion and love never wavering. Paul enjoyed camping, traveling, music, water sports and skiing. He married Dorothy Turcotte in 1958, and they celebrated nearly 58 years of marriage together. They moved to Emmaus in 1962 and became active members of The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit in Emmaus, PA. Paul volunteered repairing Talking Books for the visually impaired; and delivered Meals on Wheels for several years.
