IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nancy E.
Thomas
April 6, 1933 – August 28, 2024
Nancy Thomas, born in 1933, to Daniel Mills Eno and Laura Amanda Grazier Eno, was the sixth of seven children. Raised in rural Honesdale, PA, she enjoyed picking strawberries and visiting the family dairy farm. Nancy was Honesdale High's 1949 Harvest Queen and worked summers as a telephone operator throughout college. In 1955, She earned a home economics degree from Mansfield State Teachers College, where she met her husband John Paul Thomas. It was love at first sight; he vowed to steal her away from her beau while on a date. They married in 1954, in Crafton, PA, as John was shipping off to Japan and Korea.
Across the state, Nancy taught home economics with the Pennsylvania Cooperative Extension Service until 1960, when the young couple moved to Emmaus, PA, and John started his law practice. They then adopted Richard and ten months later, Alan was born. Almost five years later, along came twins Jean Marie and John. Since then, Nancy has been a member of the Emmaus Moravian Church.
Nancy was a loving wife, mother and talented homemaker, putting to good use all she had learned at Mansfield and from her own mother. When the children were older, Nancy ran a carpet-cleaning business for several years. She enjoyed quilting and sewing, making many of her own clothes and her children's clothes, including her daughter's wedding dress. She golfed with her husband and friends at Brookside Country Club and couldn't stay away from auctions. Nancy liked to travel with John, her family, and her siblings. She never met a stranger, striking up friendly conversations in grocery store lines, with waitresses, or wherever she happened to be.
Nancy found her greatest joy spending time with family, not only with her husband and children, but also with her siblings and extended family. She loved family reunions, making crafts and traveling, especially with her sisters, Alice and Dorothy. The love among her siblings was extraordinary and enduring, ensuring every goodbye would last at least an hour and that the next visit was already being planned. (All predeceased her.)
Nancy was also predeceased by her husband John in 2009. She then became re-acquainted with an old friend, Jerome Knauss, who had also lost his spouse. Nancy and Jerry became loving and steadfast companions for the remainder of their years together. Tragically, her son Alan predeceased Nancy in 2021.
Nancy leaves behind family who deeply mourn her loss, but are grateful for her warm affection, unwavering support and good cheer: children Richard, John, and Jean Marie Livaudais (Charles); grandchildren Samantha Gilbert; Stephanie Gubish (Rick); Benjamin Livaudais, Charles Thomas; Laura Livaudais; and great grandchildren Olivia, Riley and Lily Gubish. She also leaves behind loving partner Jerome Knauss.
