September 28, 1932 – April 8, 2022
Martin A. Burke, 89, of Pennsburg, PA, formerly of Allentown, PA, departed from his loving family on April 8, 2022 after a decade-long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was the husband to Barbara A. Burke with whom he shared 59 years of marriage. Marty was the son of the late Mary Clark Burke and Martin J. Burke of Minersville, PA, and a brother to Robert F. Burke of Sun Lakes, AZ and sisters Arlene McDermott of Glenolden, PA and Ellen Nevada of Minersville, PA.
Martin, or "Marty" as he was affectionately known, graduated Minersville High School in 1951. Marty was employed by Artz's groceries and then later worked as a union carpenter with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America until his retirement in 1992. Marty was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Emmaus, PA.
Marty will be remembered for his infectious laughter, his soulful singing voice, (he was often compared to Frank Sinatra) and his talent for storytelling. Marty had a deep affection for nature and the outdoors and was never without a dog by his side, most recently, his beloved rescue schnauzer, Molly. He also had an abiding sense of justice and never missed an opportunity to vote in an election, a value he instilled in his children and grandchildren.
Marty will be dearly missed by all who loved him, most especially his two daughters, Eileen Burke and Maureen Burke Collins, son-in-law John Collins and his two grandchildren, Jack and Meaghan Collins and granddaughter-in-law Brianna Brandon. Marty also is survived by his many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Martin Burke.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Saint Ann's Catholic Church at 415 S. 6 th St., Emmaus, PA 18049 on Wed., April 13 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will take place in the church preceding the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., Emmaus is handling arrangements.
