Obituary

Leonard Rocco Salvage passed away on August 1st at St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem, PA. He was the son of Tony B. Salvage and Ida (Bolash) Salvage.

Len attended Holy Ghost Catholic grade school in Bethlehem and proud to have been on the football team that were the Parochial League Champs of 1951. He transferred from Vo-Tech in 10th grade to Central Catholic High School in Allentown, PA, graduating with the coolest flat top and voted "best dressed" in his class. He played football, was an acolyte, and a member of the French Club (no doubt to impress the girls).

A three-year veteran (we'll round up) of the U.S. Marine Corps, Third Battalion, Salvage had first attended Lehigh University. After military service stationed in Morocco, he went to work Bell Labs and picked up two Associate's Degrees, at Penn State Allentown Extension through night school. He then joined Bethlehem Steel's Homer Research Laboratories. In 1968, the Morning Call reported that the "Steel Scientist" had won a $1000 prize and awarded the Pierre Jacquet Memorial Award.

Len met his first wife Sandy (Lindenmuth) at Kelecher and Roeder Drug Store in Bethlehem and they married after his military service in 1961. They had two daughters Colette and Tracy.

He married Janet (Egner) in 1974 gaining a red-headed stepchild. Together Len and Janet enjoyed walking and ate at nearly every decent restaurant in the Lehigh Valley. They did a fair amount of traveling -Bermuda, Hawaii, Japan, and four times to Taiwan!  After over four decades of marriage, he lost Janet to brain cancer. Len was still active in his weekly breakfast with friends until mobility became an issue.

Hobbies included bowling in his 30's, but Len had a love for the "good walk spoiled" game of golf. His favorite spots were either in his lounger as an "armchair" quarterback, or sitting under the crabapple tree with his dog, Max.

Leonard was predeceased by his sister Eva Sabino and is survived by his daughters Colette (Salvage) Zoobi (Husband Fadi) and their daughter Samira; Tracy Salvage and her son Ian; Stepson Jay Locher (Wife Kitty), and nephews, Tony and Larry Sabino.
