Obituary

Kathryn E. Weaknecht Kathryn E. Weaknecht, 78, of Emmaus, died Dec. 15, 2008 in the Lehigh Valley Hospital Inpatient Hospice Unit. Born Sept. 6, 1930 in Emmaus, she was the daughter of the late Milton H. and Stella (Wieder) Stortz. She was a 1948 graduate of Emmaus High School. After working for the telephone company for a couple of years, she married Jay Weaknecht on June 24, 1950. She was a homemaker, raising 3 children. She went back to school in 1965 and in 1966 became a licensed beautician, working for the Bonnielyn Beauty Shop. In 1976, Kathryn donated a kidney to her daughter Gail. In 1978, she began working for the Lehigh County Orphans Court in the marriage license department, retiring in 1994. She was an active member of Emmaus Moravian Church, where she taught Sunday School, participated in Kings Daughters, Christian Crusaders, Sacristan Corp, and she served as an Elder. Kathryn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Survivors: Continuing in life is her husband, Jay; Sons, Rev. Bruce M. Weaknecht and wife Renae of Egg Harbor City, NJ and Mark J. Weaknecht of Hamburg; Brother, Arthur Stortz and wife Betty; Sisters, Ruth Stoudt and Mary Doney; Sister-in-law, Madelyn Stortz all of Emmaus; Grandchildren, Joshua Weaknecht and wife Carrie of Macungie, Dr. Marissa Weaknecht of Harrisburg, and Gretchen Weaknecht of Egg Harbor City, NJ; Great Granddaughter, Hailey Weaknecht of Macungie. She was predeceased by a daughter, Gail M. Weaknecht in 2007. Services: Memorial Services Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008 at 2:00 PM in Emmaus Moravian Church, Main St. and Keystone Ave., Emmaus. Friends may call 1:00 to 2:00 PM in the church. Interment will follow in Emmaus Moravian Cemetery. Schantz Funeral Home, Inc., Emmaus is in charge of arrangements.
