Josephine K. Hinkle Josephine K. Hinkle (formerly of Emmaus), 94, a life-long educator and librarian, died on Feb. 5 at Arbor View, an extension of Willow Valley retirement community, Lancaster. Jo was born in Reading and was proud of her Pennsylvania German heritage. She was the first member of her family to go to college, earning a bachelor's and master's degrees in library science, both from Kutztown University. She served as librarian originally at Emmaus High School, and finally at Emmaus Junior High School. Following her retirement, Jo volunteered at the Emmaus Public Library and the Lehigh Valley Hospital. In 1987, she moved to Willow Valley Lakes, serving as their librarian and also volunteering in the mailroom and at the front desk. A life-long lover of reading, Jo was robbed of her favorite activity by macular degeneration. Through the help of the Susquehanna Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, she was encouraged to continue her love of books by listening to them on tape and CDs. Jo was a long time member of Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church in Allentown, serving on the church council for many years. She was presently a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Lancaster. Survivors: Jo was predeceased by her husband, James O. Hinkle. She is survived by her beloved sister, Madeline K. Nawrocki, of West Lawn, PA, a daughter, Holly Graff, and her partner, Dennis Culhane, of Lititz, PA, a grandson James Graff, and wife Ansley, of Tampa, FL, and great grandchildren Anne, Witten, and James, grandson Mark Graff, and wife Rebecca, of Tampa, FL, and great granddaughter Eleanor. Services: A Service of Remembrance will be held at Arbor View at a later date and at Schantz Funeral Home, 250 Main St., Emmaus, PA, 18049, on Tuesday, Feb. 12.
