John B. Lovis, 80, of Emmaus, died June 20, 2015 in Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was the husband of Lois A. (Heidenfeldt) Lovis, they would have celebrated their twentieth wedding anniversary next month. Born in Rahway, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Donald B. and Margaret (Spur) Lovis. A native of Winchester and Lexington, MA, he was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Allentown. He graduated in 1956 from Norwich University, Northfield, VT with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Management, and attended the University of Maryland, School of Law and the University of Michigan, Graduate School of Business Administration. He served for eight years as a Reserve Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A member of Bethlehem Steel's 1956 "loop course", he was assigned to plant operations at Sparrows Point, MD. In 1963 he was transferred to Bethlehem, PA where over the next 32 years he held various positions in Corporate Engineering, Operation, and Planning Departments. He retired in 1995 as Director - Strategic Planning. Holder of a US Patent for coating steel sheet, he was also author of a history of the Sparrows Point Plant, published in 2005, and recently published Steelmaking in Bethlehem, PA "The Final Years". John served as a Trustee of the Episcopal Diocese of Bethlehem and Junior Warden and Trustee of the Cathedral Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. He also served on Boards of the Lower Macungie Township Authority and the Lehigh County, Cycling & Fitness Park Commission. In later years he was a volunteer for Lehigh County Meals on Wheels and Catholic Charities Refugee Service Programs. Survivors: Wife; stepson, Christopher J. husband of Jennifer S. (Lauchnor) Brown, Salisbury Township, stepdaughter, Tobi J. (Brown) wife of James Paige, Boalsburg, Centre County. Other survivors include a brother, Richard S. and his wife Jan Lovis, South Yarmouth, MA and four grandchildren, Tyler C. Brown, Derek J. Brown, Kylie J. Paige and Logan J. Paige. Services: A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 3:00 PM in First Presbyterian Church of Allentown, 3231 W. Tilghman Street Allentown. Visitation 2:00 to 3:00 PM in the church.
