Jane E. Bechtel Jane E. Bechtel, 73, of Macungie, formerly of Bethlehem, died Jan. 12, 2009 in the Lehigh Valley Hospital Inpatient Hospice Unit. She was the wife of William F. Bechtel and the late William F. Schleicher. She and Bill celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary on April 26, 2008. Born in Frenchtown, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Helen (DeThomas) Edinger. She worked for Bethlehem AHEAD raising funds to expand and improve the local hospitals; DeSales University; and Durkee Famous Foods. She later worked for Lehigh Valley Hospital as an assistant to the Director of Nursing, retiring in 1994. While raising her family, Jane was an active member of the PTA, a den leader in the Cub Scouts, and a faithful member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schoenersville. She had a life-long love of sewing and was a member of the Lehigh Valley Couturier Society. Survivors: Husband; Sons, William H. Schleicher and partner Matthew A. Lackowski of Morristown, NJ and Santa Monica, CA, John E. Schleicher and wife Colleen C. of Breinigsville, and Thomas S. Schleicher of Allentown; Stepdaughter, Barbara L. wife of Neil F. Breuer of Springfield; Stepsons, David T. Bechtel and wife Mary A. of Emmaus, William F. Bechtel, Jr. and wife Jennifer L. of Whitehall, and Richard A. Bechtel and wife Lori L. of Macungie; Brother, John Edinger of Syracuse, NY; 9 Grandchildren. Services: Funeral Services Mon, Jan. 19, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Schantz Funeral Home, Inc., 250 Main St., Emmaus. Viewing Sun., Jan. 18, 2009 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and Monday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Coopersburg.
