James A.D. Eaton, 94, Allentown, died March 13, 2015 in Luther Crest, where he was residing. He was the widower of Alice (Peter) Eaton. Born in Birmingham, AL, he was the son of the late Joseph Jackson Eaton and Lucy (Downey) Eaton. He attended the University of Alabama and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, class of 1943 that graduated in 1942, followed by post graduate studies at Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He honorably served his country as a Captain in the Marine Corps, serving in the Marshall Islands of the Pacific and participated in the invasion of Okinawa. Following his service, he formed a real estate, insurance and development company in Birmingham. He moved to Allentown in 1950 to join Peters Motor Company where he served as Vice President and General Manager until 1957. From 1958 to 1973 he was employed at Penn Securities Company, becoming Vice President and then President of the company. He completed his career as a stock broker for the former Hemphill, Noyes and Company, retiring in 1979. He was an active member of the former Faith U.C.C, Allentown, serving as a deacon, elder, and consistory president and more recently a member of First Presbyterian Church of Allentown. He was a member of the Citizens Advisory Committee to the School Board, Chairman of the New Car Dealers Association, President of the Allentown Chapter of the American Business Club, headed the Automotive Division of The American Red Cross and Red Feather Campaigns prior to the present United Fund, served twice as chairman of the State Inspection Station of Lehigh County. He also served on the Board of Directors of Penn Securities Company, Schuylkill Life Insurance Company, Mocar, Inc., and Allentown Commercial Corporation. In 1980 he served as Lehigh County coordinator of the "George Bush for President Campaign". He later served terms on the Executive Committee and the Candidate Selection Committee of the Lehigh County Republican Party. In 1983 he was named Vice Chairman of the Consumer Advisory Panel for Blue Cross of the Lehigh Valley and after the merger with Capital Blue Cross was named to the Advisory Council of Capital Blue Cross. At Luther Crest, he served as treasurer of the Residents Association. Survivors: Son, J. Jackson Eaton, III, and wife Jennifer of Allentown; Daughter, Jade Alice Eaton and husband Sandy Irving of Greenbelt, MD and Daughter, Ida Lynn Blasser and husband Dr. Kurt Blasser of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; 7 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. Services: Funeral Service Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 10:00 AM in First Presbyterian Church Chapel, 3231 Tilghman Street, Allentown. Interment with military honors will follow in Heidelberg Union Cemetery. Schantz Funeral Home P.C., Emmaus is handling arrangements. A memorial service will be held at Luther Crest in April.
