Heber A. Silfies Heber A. Silfies, 91, of Emmaus, died August 16, 2010 in Moser Nursing Home. He was the widower of the late Catherine E. (Welle) Silfies. Born in Bath, he was the son of the late Harvey E. and Emma (Warner) Silfies. He was employed by Mack Truck, Inc. and worked in the test lab and engineering department for 42 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. Anns Catholic Church, Emmaus. He honorably served his country in the Army during WWII, serving in Europe with General Pattons 3rd Army and in Korea from 1950 to 1952, earning a silver and bronze star. He was a member of the Emmaus Lions Club since 1964, serving as financial secretary for 18 years, life member of the Emmaus VFW, the 7th Armored Division Association, Mack Retirees, the Mercantile Club of Emmaus, and the Emmaus Youth Association, where he served 18 years as treasurer. Survivors: Son, Stephen M. Silfies and wife Alicen Bailey-Silfies of Macungie; Granddaughter, Addy Silfies. He was predeceased by a son, David A. Silfies in 1990; Brothers, Claude, Clayton, Speener, and Eilas Silfies; Sisters, Mary Cressman and Helen Berk. Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, August 20, 2010 at 11:00 AM in St. Anns Catholic Church, 415 South 6th St., Emmaus. Viewing 9:30 to 10:30 AM in the Schantz Funeral Home, Inc., 250 Main St., Emmaus. Lions Club Services at 9:30 AM in the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow in Northwood Cemetery, Emmaus.
