Obituary

Else Maier Gerbert Else Maier Gerbert, of Emmaus, a well-known duplicate bridge teacher and certified club director, died May 23, 2010 in her residence. She was the widow of the late Rudolph M. Gerbert who died in 2005. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Knapp) Maier. Else was known around and beyond the Lehigh Valley for her achievements and excellence in the field of duplicate bridge. She was a member of the American Contract Bridge League over 50 years. In 1968 she became a certified bridge director, and a Life Master in 1980. She won many Regional and National Tournaments. In 1993, 1994, 1995, and 1998 she won the Silver Life Master awards, and in 1996 she won the Henry W. Enberg Memorial Trophy given by the Lehigh Valley Bridge Association. Else became a Gold Life Master in 2002. Through the years she accumulated close to 3000 Master Points. She served on the board of the Lehigh Valley Bridge Association, and served as treasurer for 37 years. Else was chairman of the Lehigh Valley Bridge Association annual holiday party for 22 years. She organized, started and directed duplicate bridge games at the Lehigh Country Club, Brookside Country Club, and Saucon Valley Country Club in the 1970s. All three sanctioned clubs are still very active. Else was active in community affairs. She was a member of the Emmaus Womans Club for the last 58 years, and served on the Board of Directors. She was president from 1970 to 1972. She was very active in the clubs theater productions. Else was a member of the Lehigh County Senior Citizens Center of Allentown, where she served as certified club director for the duplicate bridge games on Fridays. Else and her husband were former members of Brookside Country Club. Survivors: She is survived by her loving daughter, Brigitte G. Gerbert of Allentown Services: Private.
