Elwood L. Woody Weidner Elwood L. Woody Weidner, 76, of Emmaus, died November 2, 2009 in his home. He was the husband of Shirley E. (Long) Weidner. They observed their 55th anniversary in May 2009. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Floyd and Florence (Hawkins) Weidner. He graduated from Muhlenberg High School in 1952 where he ran track and cross-country and participated in the Penn Relays. He worked for Food Fair/Pantry Pride for 29 years, including Store Manager at locations throughout the Lehigh Valley and Reading area. Subsequently, he worked for a number of other food retailers including Radcliffs IGA, as park manager for the borough of Emmaus and finally, as a Hallmark Card merchandiser until the onset of illness in 2008. Elwood honorably served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in France. He was a member of St. Johns U.C.C., Emmaus. He was a member of the Emmaus Lions Club for over 20 years, serving as president in 1990. An avid golfer, he enjoyed fishing, traveling, preparing food for church and club functions, spending time with family and watching his grandchildrens sports/school activities. In his younger days, he pitched for a number of fast pitch softball teams in Lehigh and Berks County and on an Army travel team in Europe. Survivors: Wife; Sons, Christopher L. Weidner and wife Ann of Wilmington, DE and Randall L. Weidner of Lancaster; Daughter, Melanie A. and her husband Bruce C. Thomson of Delta; Grandsons, Erik and William Weidner and Forrest Thomson. He was predeceased by stepbrother F. John Weidner and stepsister Beatrice Steininger.
