Elizabeth M. "Betty" Gehring, 103, formerly of Emmaus, died March 22, 2022 in Fellowship Terrace.  She was the wife of the late Charles H. Gehring.  Born June 12, 1918 in Nazareth, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Olivia (Shwambach) Marcks.    Betty graduated from Nazareth High School in 1935 and West Chester State College in 1938 with a B.S. in music and English.  Her teaching career spanned the next forty years having taught in Fountain Hill, Bath (Northampton), Coplay, and the last 23 years in Bethlehem, retiring in 1979.  She then began volunteering at Lehigh Valley Hospital for the next 33 years.  Betty enjoyed babysitting grandchildren, attended many adult education classes at LCCC, needlework, reading, cooking, baking, cutting stained glass, traveling, and socializing with many friends.  She was a member of Old Zionsville U.C.C.

Betty is survived by her son, Charles F. Gehring and wife Carol of Whitehall; daughter, Susan E. wife of Benjamin Giralico of New Tripoli; grandchildren, Sara wife of Michael Lee and Timothy Gehring and wife Amanda; great grandson, Nathan.  She was predeceased by siblings, Carl Marcks, Donald Marcks, and Thalia Shafer.

Funeral services will be held on Mon. March 28, 2022 at 10:30 AM in Zentz Community Center at Fellowship Community, 3020 Fellowship Drive, Whitehall.  Viewing 9:30 to 10:30 AM.  Interment will be private in Emmaus Moravian Cemetery.  Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., Emmaus is handling arrangements.
