Obituary

Donald E. Lichtenwalner Donald E. Lichtenwalner, 85, of Macungie, died August 4, 2013 in St. Luke's Hospital Allentown. He married his high school sweetheart, Betty J. (Gehman) Lichtenwalner with whom he celebrated 65 years of marriage. Born in Macungie, he was the son of the late Ellis and Florence (Lichtenwalner) Lichtenwalner. He was a 1946 graduate of Emmaus High School. Donald was a 3rd generation and lifetime potato farmer. He was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church in Macungie, where he was a Church Council member, Sunday School Superintendent, and served on the building committee and currently a member of St. Peter's Union Church, Macungie, serving on the Joint and Lutheran Council, Church Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent, and member of the building committee. He was Master of the Macungie Grange, Lehigh Northampton Pomona Grange, and currently a member of the Trexlertown Grange serving on the PA State Grange Agriculture Committee. He served as a director on the Lehigh County of Soil Conservation District and the Lehigh County Extension Board, hosted international farmers through the National 4H Foundation, served on the advisory board of the former 1st National Bank of Allentown, past president of the Lichtenwalner Reunion, former member, past president, financial secretary, and director of the Western Lehigh Lion's Club, was a life member of the Macungie VFW and the Macungie Fire Co., and played the trumpet in the Macungie Band. Survivors: Wife; Sons, Timothy E. Lichtenwalner and wife Karen of Coplay and Mark A. Lichtenwalner and wife Katherine of Macungie; Daughter, Janice E. wife of Richard Wetzel of Macungie; Grandchildren, Dr. Todd and Dr. Danielle Wetzel of Niskayuna, NY, Dr. Eric and Angela Wetzel of Baltimore, MD, Craig and Cindy Wetzel of Dearborn, MI, Dr. Drew and Dr. Danielle Wetzel of Everett, WA, Amy and Matt Hinely of Longwood, FL, Julie Lichtenwalner of Plant City, FL, Erin and Joel Geiger of Bath, Rachel A. Lichtenwalner of Alexandria, VA, and Molly A. Lichtenwalner of Macungie; Great Grandchildren, Calvin, Melinda, Grace, Leo, Celia, Lydia, Noah, Micah, Luke, Adam, and Eli. He was predeceased by a brother, William and sisters, Miriam and Arlene. Services: Funeral Services Sat., August 10, 2013 at 10:30 AM in St. Peter's Union Church, 7863 St. Peter's Rd., Macungie, PA 18062. Viewing Fri., Aug. 9, 2013 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., 250 Main St., Emmaus and Sat. 9:30 to 10:30 AM in the church. Interment will follow in Solomon's Union Cemetery, Macungie.
