Obituary

David R. Schaffer, 65, of Emmaus, died June 12, 2025, in his residence.  Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Ernest and Helen (Weidner) Schaffer.  David was a 1978 graduate of William Allen High School.  He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force.  David began working for Farm and Home and later worked as a Delivery Person for Buckeye Pipeline for over 34 years, retiring in May 2022.  David was a lifelong fan of the Raiders and NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt.  He enjoyed riding his Harley, traveling and taking yearly trips to Ocean City, Maryland with his children and brother, John's family.  He loved making his mothers' spaghetti sauce and chocolate cream cheese cake for family and friends.  He also enjoyed shopping and collecting various things, such as hats and t-shirts from his travels and many Raiders and various sports memorabilia.  He was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Whitehall.  He was also a member of Emmaus Fire Company #1, Citizens Fire Company #2, Emmaus, the Mercantile Club of Emmaus, Cetronia Fire Company, and Alburtis Rod and Gun Club.

David is survived by his son, Derrick Reed Schaffer and wife, Laura; daughter, Danielle Ruth Schaffer and partner, John; grandchildren, Gavin and Harrison; sister, Denise wife of Keith Baltsar; sister-in-law, Mary (Peach) Schaffer; nieces and nephews; and a close circle of lifelong friends.  David was preceded in death by siblings, Deborah Paul and husband William, John Schaffer and Stoney Schaffer.

A celebration of David's life will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Emmaus Fire Company #1, 50 S. 6th Street, Emmaus.  Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., Emmaus is handling arrangements.
