Obituary

D. Samuel Wierman died on March 27 at LVHN, surrounded by family. He was married for 71 years to Madge Wierman who died on September 22, 2016 . Born in Hanover, PA, July 19,1924, he was the son of Burton Wierman and Margret Wierman Zartman.

He is survived by a sister Brenda Wierman Smith the wife of Paul Smith.

He and Madge were devoted parents to their seven children: Stephanie wife of Dr. George Anderson, Susan wife of Philip Siebert, Sam Wierman, Marybeth wife of Michael Beck, Lisa (deceased) wife of Jeffrey Markle, Timothy husband of Jennifer Wierman and Amy Wierman.

Pap was a devoted grand father to Abel and Jonathan Anderson, Emily Noel, Stephanie Stephenson, Kathryn Canton, Lauren Palladino, Samuel, Danielle, Allison, Jack, Nick, and Luke Wierman, Michael, Kristen and Timothy Beck, Melissa Markle, Greta Smith, and Hannah Ulecka. As well as 13 great - grandchildren, Stephanie, Sophia, Leif, Luke, Caliana and Carter Anderson, Chase, Logan and Wyatt Noel, Emma Smith, Norah Ulecka, Charlotte Canton, and Michael Beck III. He was always interested in their academic, sports and other activities.

He loved hosting his family at his homes in Emmaus, Stone Harbor, Cape May Court House, Sanibel, Macungie and Country Meadows; especially, to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. He and Madge always headed home for the holidays when they lived in Sanibel and loved gathering the family for special visits and dinners.

Sam was a graduate of Delone Catholic High School and the United States Merchant Marine Academy. He served as an Ensign in the United States, Naval Reserve. He earned a Certified Life Underwriter designation from the American College of Life Underwriters and a GRI from the Graduate Real Estate Institute.

Sam sailed as second officer for the U.S. Lines during WW2 . One of his famous voyages was a trip to Murmansk, Russia , in 1944 with supplies for the Russian Army. He received a special medal from the President of Russia for his service.

After his discharge from the U.S. Merchant Marines, he was a sales executive with Prudential in Reading and was the manager of the Allentown Office. He was also President of Balanced Financial Planning, a company he formed to mass market mutual funds and life insurance.

His favorite career was in real estate sales and development which he pursued for several years in Stone Harbor, New Jersey prior to retiring.

In 1987, he and Madge retired to Sanibel, Florida, where they were residence for 25 years. During their time in Sanibel, they made many friend s and loved hosting their family and friends for overnight visits.

Family, church and community service were his passion. He was active in many organization s throughout his life and held many offices in organizations and boards in his home towns of Reading, Allentown, Cape May Court House and Sanibel. He was a proud Republican and was president of several republican clubs. In 1970, he ran for Lehigh County Commissioner, an election which he lost.

In Allentown, he was active in the Cursillo Movement and was a leader and team member in several retreats and remained active in the organization for many years during which he made great friends.

He was active in all of his parishes throughout his life starting as an altar boy at St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Hanover. One of his proudest achievements was as a L ector and Eucharistic Minister at St. Isabelle's in Sanibel for 20 years. There he especially appreciated the inspiring spiritual leadership of Father Christopher Senk who he believed embodied special gifts as a pastor. At St. Isabelle's, Sam was also active in many social events and men's organizations. When in residence in the Allentown area he loved attending Mass at St. Thomas More Church and greatly appreciated the many visitors from the priests, nurses, and volunteers who regularly visited him while at Country Meadows.

In 2012, he moved to his final home at Country Meadows in Allentown , where he enjoyed making new friends and participating in their many musical events. Sam loved the staff and greatly appreciated the attention to his needs while at Country Meadow.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 6, at 11 AM at St Thomas More Catholic Church, 1040 Flex e r Ave., Allentown, PA 18103. Visitation 9:30 to 10:45 in the Church. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to St. Thomas More Church.
