Obituary

Bill Crompton, 69, of Macungie, died June 6, 2023 surrounded by the love of his family. He was the husband of Eileen P. (Munro) Crompton. Born in Rocky Mount, NC, he was the son of Emma Lorine (Daughtridge) Crompton and the late Charles William Crompton. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Eileen; mother, Emma; sons, Brett Crompton and wife Kate and William Crompton and wife Anne; daughter, Annie wife of Dr. Edward Guarino; grandchildren, Sophia, Gabriella, Piero, Liam, Wyatt, and Asa; brothers, Donald Crompton and Paul Crompton and wife Sue; and sister, Terri Crompton.

Bill was a graduate of Penn State University. He began his successful career in New York City working as an account executive for Proctor and Gamble and General Mills. This was an exciting time for the boy who grew up playing stick ball in the streets of Levittown, PA. As Bill's career advanced in Marketing and Sales, so did his home life. Married to his high school sweetheart, with two small children, Bill sought a simpler, country life. Moving to the Lehigh Valley in 1984, he joined Alpo Pet Foods. With extensive corporate leadership experience and a deep background in Marketing and Sales strategy, Bill served as Marketing Vice President for Alpo. Entrepreneurially spirited, Bill was a Founding Partner and Chief Operating Officer for a start-up business earning acclaims from "Venture Idol" and was selected by producers of "Shark Tank" as a finalist. Returning to his roots, an admirer of his hardworking family of masons, carpenters, and steelworkers, Bill became co-founder of a custom home building business. This allowed more flexibility for family time and was especially pleased when his two sons were able to share in this family-oriented business during summer breaks from school.

Above all, he loved spending time with his family and loved nature. With great intention, Bill carved out a beautiful homestead for his three children and wife to enjoy. Weekend gatherings included cousins, family, and friends for picnics, campfires, and sing-alongs. Once described by a close friend,"Bill, revered as a Lehigh Valley legend for many years, is a true ' Renaissance Man'. His many interests include hunting, fly fishing, pigeon racing, coaching soccer and baseball, singing and playing a variety of instruments. He is often seen with his Mighty Mahindra tractor weaving through the fields on Mountain Road."

Bill was a planner—whether it be a detailed marketing plan, a plot plan for his blueberry plants, house plans for a customer, or future plans for generations of Cromptons. His dream for his family was to provide a beautiful, safe haven for his children, grandchildren, and beyond. A compassionate, devoted caregiver, he was always thinking of others. Each summer, he stocked his pond with trout for all the avid Crompton fly fishermen and women. He loved watching his beloved Uncle Fred and his grandfather, Fred Crompton, Sr. throw a perfect cast, set the hook, and land a speckled trout. Bill was a patient teacher and took great joy in sharing this time honored sport. Summer visits to his birthplace, Rocky Mount, NC, ingrained a deep love for the outdoors while canoeing and fishing "on the creek" with cousins, his Grandpa, and his cherished Uncle John.

Known for his infectious laugh, sense of humor, dedication to family and friends, Bill will be dearly missed.

A Celebration of Bill's life will be held Monday, June 26, 2023 at Sunset Farm, 4090 Mountain Road, Macungie, PA 18062. Calling hours are 10:00 to 11:30 am. Immediately following the visitation there will be a service. Please feel free to dress appropriately for an outdoor venue. Color is fine for a man who led a colorful life. Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., Emmaus is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers and to honor a man who longed to be a part of nature, please do any number of the following as a tribute to Bill: donate to Trout Unlimited (https://www.tu.org), treat someone to dinner, plant a tree, take a walk in the woods with a loved one; or sit outside at sunset, sipping a Manhattan, marveling at the beauty of your surroundings. Bill would have liked that very much.
