Obituary

Bennett H. Blub Gerhart Bennett H. Blub Gerhart, 81, of Emmaus, died April 7, 2008 in Lehigh Valley Hospital Inpatient Hospice Unit. He was the husband of Martha T. (Gaal) Gerhart. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary May 31, 2007. Born in Red Hill, he was the son of the late Grover G. and Elsie (Haas) Gerhart. He was the owner of Blubs Service Station in Emmaus for 17years. He later worked for the former 1st National Bank, Allentown as a Charge Card Representative, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Emmaus Masonic Lodge #792, F&AM, where he was awarded Mason of the year 3 times, served as the president of the Temple Association and the Cellar Dwellers, was a member of the Lehigh Consistory, the Rajah Temple, and the High 12 Club. He was a life member of Emmaus Fire Co. #1, served on the Emmaus Borough Council from 1980 to 1983, was past president of the Emmaus Kiwanis Club, where he was awarded by the citizens of Wilkes-Barre for taking truck loads of clothing and food with Rev. Foerster during the Agnes Flood, member of the American Legion, was awarded the Outstanding Citizen for the Borough of Emmaus, was a past officer of the West End Cubs, and was a member of the Travelers Protective Association. He volunteered for the National Cancer Society for 5 years and took patients for treatments, volunteered at Lehigh Valley Hospital in the John and Dorothy Morgan Cancer Center for 14 years, volunteered for Channel 39 for many years, and played Santa Claus for over 40 years in the Emmaus Area. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Emmaus. He honorably served his country in the Army Air Force during WWII. Survivors: Wife; Brothers, Richard Gerhart and wife Edna June of Emmaus and Bruce Gerhart and wife Bonnie of Lancaster; Sisters, Ferne Queen of New Port Richey, FL, Jean Wilson of Macungie, and Ethelmae Brophy of Allentown; Sister-in-Law Elinor Gerhart of Allentown; Adopted Daughter, Kathy Bogensberger of Whitehall; Adopted Grandchildren, Joshua and Jessica; Many Nieces and Nephews. Services: Funeral Services Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the Schantz Funeral Home, Inc., 250 Main St., Emmaus. Viewing Wednesday 7:00 to 8:30 PM and Thursday 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Masonic Services Wednesday at 8:15 PM in the funeral home. Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery, Emmaus.
