Barbara M. Schmid of Wilmington, NC, formerly of Charles Town, WV, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2018 in her home.  Born in Brooklyn, NY on April 24, 1949, she was the daughter of Maria B. Schmid and Erwin R. Schmid.  She was a graduate of Emmaus High School and Pennsylvania State University with an advanced degree from American University. As a computer science major, she began a long career working for various agencies on government related contracts and projects. She worked for the Department of Defense and served as a project manager at SAIC, a company providing government services and information technology support.  In 2017 following a brief retirement, she moved to the Plantation Village Retirement Community and was a member of Lutheran Church of Reconciliation, Wilmington.  A loving and devoted mother and daughter, she will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Survivors : Daughter, Shannon M. Hignite of Garner, NC; Mother, Maria B. Schmid of Emmaus, PA; Father, Erwin R. Schmid of Allentown, PA; Sister, Gloria E. Schmid of Hanover, MA.  Her daughter, Jennifer "Jenny" M. Hignite, and brother, Richard P. Schmid, preceded her in death.

Services : 11:30 AM on Thursday, June 28 in Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., 250 Main Street, Emmaus, PA 18049.  Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Macungie, PA.
