Obituary

Audrey Knoll Mason, 81, of Emmaus died unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 28 surrounded by loved ones. Born in 1942 to Byron Frederick Knoll, Sr. and Arvilla Wentz Knoll, she spent most of her life in the Lehigh Valley. Audrey graduated from Emmaus High School in 1960. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from East Stroudsburg University in 1964, followed by a Master of Arts in Education from Kutztown University in 1969. She developed a passion for early childhood education, where she taught in Montgomery County (MD), East Penn, and Parkland School Districts.

Audrey married William (Bill) Charles Mason in 1967 and they celebrated 56 years of marriage in December. Audrey's legacy lives on through her two adoring daughters, Anne Mason Van Dyke (Jed) and Megan Mason Hatfield (Mark), who reside with their families in Baltimore. Audrey was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Brookside Country Club. She was an active member of The Barn church, and a talented artist.

More remarkable than what she did in life, was who she was – Audrey was a lifelong learner with an unquenchable curiosity and teacher's heart. Those who knew her will remember Audrey for her unflagging kindness, her warmth, and her gentle wit and humor. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and a steadfast friend to many.

Audrey is survived by her husband, Bill; her two daughters, Anne Mason Van Dyke (Jed) and Megan Mason Hatfield (Mark); her grandchildren, Owen and Mason Van Dyke, and Katharine and Anna Hatfield; and her siblings, Scott Terry Knoll and Terri Knoll Keefe. Additional survivors include many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours will be held at Schantz Funeral Home, P.C. in Emmaus from 4-6pm Friday June 7th, with a service to follow. Private burial. Donations to the charity of your choice in honor of Audrey.
