Obituary

Arthur J. Ockey Weida Arthur J. Ockey Weida, 68, of Emmaus, died August 2, 2010 in Lehigh Valley Hospital. Born in Alburtis, he was the son of the late Russell A. and Della E. (Koehler) Weida. He was a punch press operator for Mack Truck, Inc. retiring in 1990. Previously he worked for Smith Corona. Art was one of the greatest mens fast pitch hitters ever; playing for Patriot teams in the 1960s and 1970s as well as the world championship Sunners. He held the world record for the highest batting average and was inducted into the Lehigh Valley Softball Hall of Fame in 2004. He was a member of the Emmaus High School Championship Basketball team of 1959. He was a member of the Catholic War Vets, VFW, Unami and Fire Co. #1 all of Emmaus. He honorably served his country in the Army in Germany during the Viet Nam War. Survivors: Daughter, Danielle wife of Peter J. Schurman, II of Emmaus; Sister, Janet I. wife of Ghazi Dib of Allentown, Grandchildren, Hannah and Noah; Nieces, Deena and Jenn; Nephews, Duncan and Ian; former wife, Celeste Troutman of Emmaus Services: Memorial Service to be held Friday, August 6, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Schantz Funeral home, Inc., 250 Main Street, Emmaus. Calling hours are 10:00 " 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Burial with military honors to follow in Lehigh Zion Cemetery, Alburtis.
